A High Frequency Power Transformer (HFPT) is a transformer with a multi-element magnetic shield. The shield is shaped to fit the surface of the transformer. This shield is equipped with provisions for the specific features of the winding assembly and magnetic circuit. One of the main components of a HFPT is a winding assembly, which is disposed on one side of the four-sided magnetic circuit. An electrically continuous loop is attached to the outer surface of the winding assembly, which is partially surrounded by the magnetic shield. The magnetic shield departs from the surface of the winding assembly in areas of increasing electric field. The second electrically continuous loop is separated from the winding assembly by a spaced distance. This arrangement provides significant electrostatic shielding and air movement over the winding assembly.
The design of a transformer involves determining the maximum apparent power (Pt) of the transformer. This value is determined by considering several factors. The size of the primary winding and the number of turns are important. Additionally, the PT of a transformer depends on the frequency, duty cycle, and magnetic core saturation.
Several methods of optimization have been developed for HF transformers. One method, the core geometry coefficient design optimization, focuses on reducing the core temperature, while another one is based on the current density of the windings. All of these methods are effective for solving the HF transformer design problem and maintain the operational parameters within acceptable limits.
